Here's another story about the social graph and the desire for a decentralized social network, and here's one on Wordpress as the next social network.

The meme is definitely spreading.

Isn't this the basic idea of Google's Open Social? I've been playing around with this concept for sometime. Even if there was just a central director to start that pulled in via all the APIs of all the services that I'm a member of would be cool. I've been tossing the idea around here at MS, and they might do a light version of this on the Live side.

This is the kind of thing that could only come together with some tinkering guys. I can't imagine there being a financial gain significant enough for a company to put manpower behind it.

This would be a blessing for many of my comrade-in-arms.

Ha. That was just the first way I was able to conceptualize some sort of remedy to my frustration with constantly logging in to disparate social sites. Your name for it certainly sounds much more thought-out.

Here's to watching it come together.

I love the way you put it, "Trillian for social networks". I'm going to make a follow up post to that one, which will explore how microformats, XFN, FOAF, OpenID, and LDAP could be combined to make all of this possible.

Someone will still have to write the CMS plugins to tie them all together. Like one ring to rule them all..
